The Prime Minister has warned of “extra precautions” that may have to remain beyond 19 July.

Boris Johnson was asked about the possibility of social distancing and face covering requirements remaining beyond step four of the Government’s unlocking roadmap.

He told journalists: "I will be setting in the course of the next few days what step four will look like exactly.

"But I think I've said it before, we'll be wanting to go back to a world that is as close to the status quo, ante-Covid, as possible. Try to get back to life as close to it was before Covid."

Extra precautions

He added: "But there may be some things we have to do, extra precautions that we have to take, but I'll be setting them out."

The Prime Minister and other ministers have previously described 19 July as a “terminus point” for Covid restrictions.

The Guardian has reported that all mandatory mask and social distancing restrictions in England will be scrapped this month.

Guidance may be introduced to urge caution and use face coverings when in crowded public spaces such as public transport.

Nightclubs reopening

There has also been talk of some restrictions returning during the winter months when the NHS may come under pressure.

Nightclubs will be permitted to reopen without requiring revellers to show a negative test result or proof of vaccination, it has been reported by The Evening Standard.

The newspaper’s report will be welcome news for the late-night sector businesses that have been unable to reopen are closing in March 2020 ahead of the first national lockdown.

What’s more, Government guidance is expected to be issued for business ahead of ‘freedom day’ on 19 July.

It is hoped that guidance on Monday 12 July will shed light on where hospitality operators stand regarding face masks and social distancing requirements.
