Multiple bar operator Nightcap is set to open the “world’s largest Tequila bar” and the “world’s smallest cocktail bar” this year.

The operator, which owns Barrio Familia, The Cocktail Club and the Adventure Bar Group, will unveil its first new opening for Barrio Familia since it took over in November 2021.

The 600-capacity venue is set to open the flagship site – the fifth in total for Barrio Familia – at the former Tropicana Beach Club in Covent Garden, London, in November 2022 and will serve Latin-inspired cocktails, live entertainment and a Bingo Bottomless Brunch.

Barrio Familia currently runs sites in Shoreditch, Soho, Angel and Brixton.

Best party ever thrown

Barrio Familia managing director Jim Robertson said: “Having previously set up and operated Tropicana Beach Club prior to the pandemic, I am so excited to be going back again with Nightcap to open Barrio Covent Garden. This will be our biggest Barrio to date, and without a doubt, the best party we have ever thrown.

“We believe Barrio to be the biggest Tequila bar in the world and are thrilled to bring the Latin quarter to the West End of London, especially as this has been depleted of large late-night party venues over the pandemic.”

Nightcap chief executive Sarah Willingham added: “When we acquired Barrio in November 2021 we wanted to capitalise on the growing demand for Latin-inspired, Margarita and Tequila-focused bars, we always viewed Barrio as a brand that had significant potential for growth and rollout, and we are absolutely delighted to have secured such a landmark venue in central London.”

Meanwhile, ahead of its September launch on Temple Street, Birmingham, The Cocktail Club will be hosting a three-day pop up inside Temple Phone Box on Temple Row in the city.

Open to all

“The World’s Smallest Cocktail Bar” will run between 1-3 September to celebrate the main site opening later in the month.

JJ Goodman (pictured below), co-founder of The Cocktail Club and winner of the Cocktail World Cup, will be hosting the pop-up with invited guests able to book a 10-minute slot with the “World’s Best Bartender in the World’s Smallest Cocktail Bar”. The cocktail bar will be open to all, with no booking necessary, on 2-3 September from 3pm to 8pm.

The bar will be serving The Cocktail Club’s signature cocktails Jam Jar Daiquiri, Pornstar Martini and Bramley Apple Smash.

The Cocktail Club co-founder JJ Goodman said: “I am so excited to be hosting this pop-up in Birmingham to mark the launch of our biggest and most glamorous Cocktail Club to date. The World’s Smallest Cocktail Bar (as far as we’re aware) will be serving a handful of our signature cocktails to the people of Birmingham. I’m looking forward to meeting everybody and spreading the word about The Cocktail Club Birmingham launch.”

The Cocktail Club Birmingham will have a capacity of 450 – set across two floors and three rooms – and is set to open on Temple Street on 29 September 2022.
