This year’s Top 50 Boutique Hotels list, sponsored by Taylors of Harrogate, has been unveiled with the top spot being taken by Lime Wood Hotel in Lyndhurst, Hampshire.

The New Forest venue jumped up 18 places from last year and features cosy eaves rooms alongside indulgent forest lodges.

It is home to the Herb House Spa – complete with indoor and outdoor pools with stunning forest views.

The list was announced at the exclusive event yesterday (Tuesday 22 November) at Lillibrooke Manor, Maidenhead, Berkshire.

The south west of England dominated this year’s list with venues in the area taking more than a quarter (14) of the top 50 places.

Fellow Hampshire venue the Heckfield Place in Hook was number three on the list while the number two spot was taken by The Newt in Bruton, Somerset.

Award winners

Devon-based Lympstone Manor was this year’s highest new entrant at number five. The country house is set in 28 acres of grounds including a 10-acre vineyard.

Chef Michael Caines heads up the Michelin-starred kitchen, which focuses on seasonality and local produce.

This year’s highest climber was Beaverbook in Leatherhead, Surrey, which rose up the ranks to number 32 from 45.

The quintessentially English country house features rooms named after a famous occupant as well as a Gatsbyesque art-deco bar, named after the venue’s creative director Sir Frank Lowe.

Number One Bruton in the heart of Somerset took the Food & Beverage award while most Unique Experience was awarded to Gilpin Hotel & Lake House in Cumbria.

Fantastic list

William Reed, the owner of The Morning Advertiser and Top 50 Boutique Hotels, hospitality and manufacturing group director Chris Lowe said: “We’re delighted to be revealing this fantastic list and see such strong movement in this year’s Top 50 Boutique Hotels.

“Our number one has jumped up 18 places from last year and the highest new entry is number five, which is testament to those teams’ stellar efforts.
