Newcastle-based pubs with rooms operator The Inn Collection Group has reopened the Angel Inn after an extensive renovation.

The pub in Bowness-on-Windermere, Cumbria, has received updates to its bedrooms within the main Grade II-listed building and the adjacent gatehouse, along with a revamp to the look and feel of the ground floor spaces, which began in October.

There has also been works to the grounds of the site adding to the grassed terrace areas to the front of the main building, creating further outdoor space.

Opening first for food and drinks from Friday 23 December, the first staying guests will be welcomed to the property on 27 December with strong early demand for rooms at the new-look establishment.

More site revamps to follow

The Angel Inn is the first of several Lake District properties owned by The Inn Collection Group that will be reopening in the coming months, with works currently progressing on Ambleside properties the Wateredge Inn and the Waterhead Inn along with Grasmere’s the Swan.

Inn Collection Group operations manager Paul Brown said: “Angels and Christmas are natural bedfellows so it’s nice that we are back to welcoming guests in the build up to the big day this year.

Reasons to be cheerful: licensee Sarah McIntosh celebrates the reopening

“We’re looking forward to opening and welcoming drinkers and diners in for a pre-Christmas treat and then to welcoming guests from 27 December. We have strong occupancy for the first few days that we are open to guests, so it is great to see that the reopening is keenly awaited.”

Great outdoor spaces

Brown continued: “We have created a wonderful bar and restaurant that people are going to seek out and enjoy and that is going to be further enhanced when the weather improves, and people can enjoy the great outdoor spaces.

“The works have refreshed all the bedrooms across the three buildings into the group’s style, and we know people are going to be delighted with them when they stay with us.”

The Angel Inn was bought by The Inn Collection Group in December 2020. Following the refurbishment, the adjacent Oakbank Guesthouse has been brought under the banner of the Angel Inn with its total of 32 bedrooms available across the three buildings in the complex.
