Free cheeseburgers and pints are up for grabs for 100 guests at a Fuller’s pub this January to celebrate the launch of the pubco’s new burger.

On Wednesday 25 January from 5pm, the first 100 customers through the doors at the Hydrant, Monument Street, central London, will be able to bag a cheeseburger and pint of Verdant’s Lightbulb free of charge.

The burger is a homage to the American diner-style burger – comprising a beef patty topped with ketchup, mustard, diced onion, American cheese and crinkle cut gherkins.

Lightbulb [4.5% ABV] is an extra pale ale with a biscuity malt base – brewed with a mix of European and American hops giving it a hint of sweetness.

It will be available from next week in Fuller’s 17 Craft pubs – which stretch from Birmingham to Brighton. These sites serve a mix of beers – on draught, and in cans and bottles – with food menus based around sharers and bar snacks.

Fuller’s deputy operations manager Patrick Wagstaff was “really excited” to offer customers the opportunity to try the new burger for free.

“By 25 January, even the most determined abstainers are ready to break their New Year’s Resolutions, and we’ll be there for the most eager 100 people with a delicious free burger and pint in hand,” he added.

Other operators have handed out freebies to celebrate product launches. For instance, Revolución de Cuba, a subset of Revolution Bars Group, gave away 1,800 free tacos as part of a national treasure hunt celebrating the launch of its new food menu.

The Cuban-themed bar brand hid a total of 900 taco tokens across UK towns and cities where it has a venue. Each token entitled its discoverer to one free taco dish, priced at around £6 on the menu.

Last year, Scottish-based BrewDog handed out free pints to the public for three days to spread “positivity and good vibes”.

The offer applied to any UK BrewDog venue and also included an alcohol-free beer.
