Revolution’s net zero target approved by climate initiative
The bar group is anticipated to be among the first 100 UK businesses to have net zero targets approved and aligned to the 1.5-degree pathway ambition, through the SBTi’s Net Zero Corporate Standard – a framework for corporate net xero target setting, in line with climate science.
Revolution will be reducing absolute scope one and two greenhouse gas emissions by 99.6% in the next seven years from a 2019 base year.
Furthermore, absolute scope three greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced by almost a third (30%) in the same period.
These commitments are consistent with the most recent climate science and after SBTi’s review, they meet the criteria in terms of timeframe, emissions coverage and ambition.
Clear strategy
In its longer-term plans, the group has committed to reducing absolute scope three greenhouse gas emissions by 90% by 2040 from a 2019 base year, as part of meeting the overall 2040 target.
Alongside and independently of its science-based target – Revolution’s commitment to reduce emissions – it still intends to mitigate its residual emissions from 2030 through investment in offsetting projects.
Revolution Bars group chief executive Rob Pitcher said: “Our commitment to environmental best practice is central to our long-term business strategy.
“We’ve been clear our strategy is built on the idea there is no planet ‘B’ and at Revolution Bars Group, we are 100% committed to doing our bit to minimise our environmental impact.
“The approval by SBTi is an important milestone in our journey to net zero.”
Overcoming obstacles
Business development director Andy Dyson said he was delighted the company’s plan had received approval
He added: “This milestone is the result of our teams’ achievements to date, whose work allows us to walk the talk on sustainability by reducing our waste and energy usage across our bar sites and enabling positive change up and down our supply chains.
“The relationships we have built with suppliers and more widely, our peers and collaborators in the hospitality sector are crucial to overcoming common obstacles.
“Our role is to continue innovating and supporting our sector to take action on climate change as a collective.”
