The 4.5% ABV beer, which will boast a new look thanks to designs made by student Eathan Atkion from Falmouth University, is being released on cask for the first time to celebrate a decade since the founding of Verdant.
The beer’s release will be the brewer’s biggest ever cask release and is available in venues now.
Verdant head brewer James Heffron said: “Lightbulb is now an unchanged recipe for 10 years. To celebrate this amazing staple of the Verdant stable, we are providing the exact same beer in cask dispense format.
“Expect a totally different drinking experience where the lemon sherbet character of Lightbulb rides atop an incredibly fluffy and smooth drinking experience far more akin to the softest of the soft New England pale ales with a rocky white head to match.”
Design for cask-only edition
For the third year running, Verdant has teamed up with Falmouth University’s graphic design undergraduate course, this year providing a brief for students to reimagine the artwork of some of its most well-known, iconic beer labels.
Displaying 10 rings of light, signifying 10 years since the brewery was founded, the design will be used for the special cask-only edition of Lightbulb and showcased on pump clips across the country.
Design student Aktion explained: “I was excited to have the opportunity to reimagine their classic labels and liked the idea of our creative being put on real cans for our end-of-year show.
“Working with Verdant has been a brilliant opportunity. It gave me the chance to work on a real live brief, get client feedback and develop my ideas in response, and the fact my design is going to be on the 10th anniversary edition of one of their beers is a huge bonus.”
More celebrations to come
The special anniversary edition of Lightbulb will be available on cask in about 350 venues across the UK alongside beer mats boasting the design with information about Atkion and his work.
Lightbulb’s cask release is one of several ways the brewer will be celebrating turning 10, with special beer drops in the months to come and the production of a 10th anniversary branded pint.
Verdant Brewing Co was founded in 2014 by homebrewers Hefron and Adam Robertson, who teamed up with co-director Richard White two years later.
Verdant collaborated with St Austell last summer to launch a hazy pale ale on cask called Fuse 5% ABV after launching four cask variants in December 2022 under the monikers Argal 4.4% ABV golden ale, Penpol 3.8% ABV pale ale, Lamanva 4% ABV best bitter and Burnthouse 4.6% porter.
