Sustainable focus: the 55k Tonnes has taken over the Speaker in Westminster

The Morning Advertiser had a look around Uber’s pop-up site, which the car booking app said was London’s first carbon-negative pub.

The 55k Tonnes took over the Speaker, which is usually a real ale pub on Great Peter Street in Westminster.

Guests can purchase carbon-neutral beers and can enjoy a happy hour from 5.50pm, which includes £5.50 drinks, designed to encourage people not to travel at rush hour. Customers can also benefit from a 55% discount on Uber Green rides to get home from the pub.

Carbon-negative beer Swell, from south London’s Gipsy Hill Brewing will also be available for pubgoers to quaff.

Sustainability commitment

Announcing the opening of the opening of the 55k Tonnes, Uber UK general manager Andrew Brem said: “In the UK, pubs are where we exchange ideas and opinions and what better way to promote a dialogue on electrification in the UK than with a carbon-negative pub.”

It aims to showcase Uber’s commitment to sustainability in London and beyond, he added.

According to the transport booking firm, the capital was its global electric vehicle capital with more than a quarter (30%) of its miles in London being driven by electric vehicles.

Uber has taken over the pub to celebrate 55,000 tonnes of air pollution saved in London I the past three years via its electrification efforts. It opens ahead of the company’s second annual global climate event – Go-Get Zero.

The Morning Advertiser visited the pub on its first day of opening.
