The average price of a pint of draught beer has smashed the £5 mark after going up 10p from exclusive data gathered by The Morning Advertiser (The MA).

In August last year, survey results showed the price was £4.98 for a pint in a pub but new research in January 2025 for The MA Pint Price Survey has found the figure is now £5.08 just a few months on.

This means an average pint is 26p more than the figure reported by the Office of National Statistics – £4.82 – in December 2024.

The survey was originally carried out in March 2024 and the results can be found here.

The MA Pint Price Survey studies the average prices of pints across London, the Midlands, north-east, north-west, south-east, south-west, Scotland and Wales and includes more than 30 beer brands across the category including lagers, craft, cask and stout.

Neck Oil moves up

Beavertown Neck Oil has overtaken Asahi to be the highest priced pint, as an average, across all regions, clocking in at £6.36 and is the most expensive in London at a whopping £6.92 while the Midlands and the north-east serve the cheapest Neck Oil at £5.70 each.

Some 10 of the 33 beer variants dropped in average price since August 2024, which included three cask beers – Greene King IPA, Abbot Ale and Wainwright while two craft beers fell too (Camden Hells and BrewDog Punk IPA). Core lager brands to have come down in average price include Carling, Carlsberg and Pravha with just Madri and Asahi falling in the premium lager category averages.

London pubs are the only regional ones charging more than £6 for a pint of any variant, with the average clocking in at £6.16.

The nearest average pint price was 73p cheaper – in the south-east – at £5.43. Taking third spot in the highest average price for a pint category was the south-west at £5.43.

The cheapest was the Midlands where a licensee will charge just £4.47.

Pint price percentages rose in Wales by 3.05%, north-west by 2.76%, south-east by 2.54%, London by 2.26% and south-west by 0.8%.
