The Morning Advertiser (MA) has put together a round-up of cocktails that are sure to impress customers ahead of the festivities on Monday 17 March.
MONIN Cinnamon Roll Old Fashioned

This take on a classic Old Fashioned from syrups producer MONIN is said to be “spicy, delicious and indulgent.” Read more about this recipe here.
Equipment:
- Jigger or measure
- Barspoon
- Cubed or block ice
- Rocks glass
- Peeler
Ingredients:
- 10ml MONIN Cinnamon Roll Syrup
- 50ml American whiskey (or alternative)
- 2 Dashes bitters. We like Angostura
- 1 Orange zest (Discarded)
Garnish:
- Orange zest
- Cinnamon stick
- Dehydrated orange slice
Method:
- Build the ingredients into a mixing glass, add ice to the brim, stir until diluted to your guest’s preference
- Strain into your rocks glass over ice (top with more ice if needed)
- Express the oils from your zest over the glass and discard
- Serve garnished with a cinnamon stick and dehydrated orange slice
Irish Coffee

A must have for menus on St Patrick’s Day, this House Irish Coffee from Cardiff cocktail bar Pennyroyal uses oat-based cream, offering less acidity than standard cream. Read more about this recipe here.
Equipment required:
- A kettle
- A suitable glass
Ingredients:
- 35ml Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey
- 35ml Cold brew coffee concentrate
- 20ml ‘Dosed’ Demerera Syrup
- 50ml Oat Cream
- Fresh nutmeg
- Sherry
Method:
- Dosed Demerara syrup mix:
- (Can also be used to make an Irish Old-Fashioned)
- Make a 2:1 Demerara sugar syrup
- Combine two parts syrup to 1 part oloroso sherry
- Bottle and refrigerate
How to assemble:
- Add hot water to your chosen glass to warm it up
- Separately combine all ingredients except the oat cream
- Once the glass is warm, remove the water and add ingredients
- Add 100ml boiled water from kettle
- Shake oat cream without ice
- Carefully later cream on top using the back of a spoon
- Garnish with a generous grating of fresh nutmeg
Sway in the Morning

Another whisky-based serve from Pennyroyal, this recipe also features Guinness and offers a unique twist on the classic Espresso Martini. Read more about this serve here.

- Shaker
- Jigger
Ingredients:
- 30ml Mellow Corn Whiskey
- 15ml Mr. Black Coffee Amaro (if unavailable do a short coffee infusion into Averna)
- 10ml Cocchi di Torino Sweet Vermouth
- 10ml Monin White Chocolate Syrup
- 30ml Guinness
- Cubed ice
Method:
- Shake with ice
- Dry shake
- Fine strain into frozen glass
- Garnish with white chocolate shavings and serve
Old Fashioned

Somerset-based cocktail bar Hideout is a whisky-focused venue and uses a unique blend of Buffalo Trace Bourbon, Whistle Pig six-year-old Rye and Mellow Corn Whisky, to create its version of an Old Fashioned. Read more about this recipe here.
Equipment required:
- Mixing tin
- Bar spoon
- Jigger
- Strainer
Ingredients:
- 60ml whisky blend (30ml Buffalo Trace Bourbon, 20ml Whistle Pig six-year-old Rye, 10ml Mellow Corn)
- 10ml Maple sugar blend
- 2ml Angostura and orange bitters
- Orange peel to garnish
Method:
- Add all ingredients to a mixing tin
- Stir together until diluted
- Strain into a rocks glass over an ice block
- Serve with orange peel garnish
Whiskey Smash

Next, we have a Whiskey Smash from Irish cocktail bar Homeboy in Islington, London. The recipe was created by owner Aaron Wall, read more here.
Ingredients:
- 40ml Roe & Co Irish Whiskey
- 20ml Noilly Pratt
- 20ml Mint & Greens Syrup
- 3 Dashes Orange Bitters
Method:
- Combine all ingredients into a shaker
- Shake
- Use a fine strainer and pour over ice
Kyrö Cherry Ryeball

For this serve, Finnish distiller Kyrö shares how to make its Cherry Ryeball.
Ingredients:
- 50ml Kyrö Malt Rye Whisky
- 150ml Cherry Soda
- 2 tsp Cherry Syrup
Method:
- Fill a highball glass with ice, pour the whisky and then top with cherry soda
- Add the cherry syrup and stir gently
- Serve garnished with a Maraschino cherry on cocktail stick
Starward New Old Fashioned

Another take on the classic Old Fashioned to close this year’s St Patrick’s Day Drinks Masterclass round-up, Australian whisky brand Starward described the cocktail as “tasty and modern”, adding it offers operators a chance to take customers out of their comfort zone. Jigger
- Mixing glass
- Rocks glass
- Ingredients:
- 60ml Starward Left-Field Single Malt Australian Whisky
- 10ml sugar syrup
- 2 dashes orange bitters
- 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
- Pink Grapefruit to garnish
Method:
- Add Left-Field, bitters and sugar syrup to a mixing glass
- Stir in a rocks glass over ice
- Garnish with pink grapefruit slice and serve
