Last year saw New World Trading Company (NWTC) strengthen its leadership team and streamline its focus on The Botanist brand, the company stated in its latest trading update.

The nationwide operator of 27 venues revealed record revenue of £73.5m for the 52 weeks ending 31 March 2024 alongside a 20% rise in underlying company earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA).

Over the past year, a new leadership team at the Graphite backed-business has placed The Botanist brand at the heart of the group’s growth plans.

NWTC managing director Amber Wood, who joined the company as COO in 2023, said: “2024 marked the start of a new chapter in our company history, with a strengthened leadership team and streamlined focus on The Botanist brand.”

Brand commitment

She added: “Since these results, we have opened three new locations, alongside the conversion of five former single-site brands to The Botanist, demonstrating our commitment to The Botanist as our lead brand.

“Like-for-like sales have increased by an average of 16% in these converted locations.

“We’re delighted the First Dates team have again chosen to film the latest series of the popular Channel 4 show at our beautiful Bath location, showcasing the strength of The Botanist brand.

“We’ve got a lot to be excited about in the coming months including an exciting rebranding project and we can’t wait to share the next phase of The Botanist’s journey with our guests this spring.”

Previous updates

In January, the company reported strong trading across the 2024 festive period like like-for-like sales up 5.5%.

October last year saw NWTC restructure to concentrate on its Botanist brand, closing three other sites to do so.

The operator cited the move was due to a number of factors that had impacted the sector in recent years including Covid, inflation and the cost-of-living crisis, which primarily affected trading at its smaller and non-Botanist branded sites.

It launched a company voluntary agreement at the time, which was approved by more than 95% of all responding creditors.

Currently, NWTC operates 24 sites under The Botanist with three single-site brands - The Oast House in Manchester, The Florist in Watford and The Trading House in London.
