All batches of Hawkstone Black 440ml cans have been recalled due to the product containing wheat without being declared on the label, meaning it’s a potential risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten or with coeliac disease.
This is also the case for Hawkstone Spa Lager 330ml cans and all batches of the brew are being recalled.
The Cotswold Brewing Company issued a point-of-sale notice where it said customer safety was of ‘paramount importance’ to the business and it takes all issues regarding the production of its products ‘extremely seriously’.
A Hawkstone spokesperson said: “We have issued an allergen alert for Hawkstone Spa Lager and Hawkstone Black as they contain wheat, which is not currently listed on the product label.
“All customers who have purchased these items have been notified that they can return them for a full refund.”
Apology issued
They added: “Both Hawkstone Spa Lager and Hawkstone Black remain fit for consumption for those who do not have a wheat allergy.
“We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
Last month (March), Hawkstone announced it was giving away 1,000 free kegs to pubs and bars
At the time the initiative launched, Clarkson said: “The only thing that is saving me from financial ruin is the fact we [the Farmer’s Dog] serve Hawkstone lager and cider.”
The campaign kicked off with an announcement from Clarkson, which was shared on Hawkstone’s Instagram.
The TV presenter opened the Farmer’s Dog, near Burford, Oxfordshire last summer and operators offered words of wisdom about taking on a hospitality venue.
Operator advice
A number of pub owners advised him to ensure he had the right team around him.
Earlier this year (January), Clarkson introduced beer mats at the Oxfordshire pub in a bid to deter potential glass thieves.
He wrote in his column for The Sunday Times about the struggles faced by pubs, adding the level of glass thefts at the Farmer’s Dog had been “extraordinary”.
It was recently confirmed the Cotswolds country pub would have a “starring role” in the latest series of Clarkson’s Farm.
