Here are other things pubgoers do, which bar staff have reported as pet peeves:
1. Forgotten orders
Particularly common in large groups, guests can’t remember what they ordered and it’s up to the team member serving them to play detective in working out who chose what.
2. Indecisive guests
When customers call a team member over to order but then no one in the party knows what they want to order can disrupt the flow of serving.
3. Drinks ordering
Ordering a particular stout last is a common bugbear with bar staff. While customers who order one drink at a time, questioning everyone in the group in between each order can also raise eyebrows.
4. Serving food
Working in hospitality already means you have many plates to juggle (in more ways than one). When serving customers meals, it can be a little perturbing when it’s clear all your hands are full yet guests can often be found to be asking whether their sides are also coming.
5. Splitting the bill
While splitting the bill may the fairest way of paying, especially in a large group however, expecting the staff to become a maths whizz and work out what’s left when there’s a big queue at the bar can cause friction.
6. Price complaints
The price of everything has gone up and yet customers still want to moan about it.
7. Attracting attention
Anyone who tries to get served quicker by whistling, clicking their fingers or waving payment in the air are fairly sure ways to ensure they are getting served last.
8. Standing by the glass collection area
There’s a sign saying ‘glass collection only’ and yet, why do customers still like to stand there, hoping to get served?
9. Last minute asks
When it’s three minutes until closing and there’s always one who wants that last tipple. After a long shift and having been on your feet for hours, this type of customer can grind your gears.
