Kent-based business Shepherd Neame has added a new stout to its beer portfolio.

Iron Wharf, which has a 4% ABV and a ruby red tint, aims to deliver a well-balanced, silky-smooth finish.

Its logo takes inspiration from the hull of the ships traditionally crafted in Faversham’s Wharf while its black and gold colour palette looks to reflect the premium quality of the dark beer.

Recent research from real-time intelligence firm Oxford Partnership showed year-to-date growth for stout hit 12.4%, which it said marked a notable shift in consumer preference towards richer, more flavourful drinks.

Growing demand

On the brew’s launch, Shepherd Neame chief executive Jonathan Neame said the business had also seen a rise in consumer demand for stout.

He added: “We are very proud to unveil Iron Wharf to our customers.

“We have seen a growing demand for stout among our drinkers and it is important to us to ensure our beer portfolio continues to evolve to cater for the latest tastes and trends.

“Our team have worked hard to perfect the recipe of this delicious new beer and we are really pleased to honour the heritage od our hometown with its name and design.

“This is an exciting time for Shepherd Neame as we continue to invest in refreshing an expanding our award-winning collection of beers and it gives me great pleasure to see such an excellent stout joining our permanent range.”

Portfolio additions

The brew is now available at selected sites across Shepherd Neame’s 289-strong estate.

Iron Wharf is the second new beer to join the brewer’s permanent range this year with the 4.3% ABV IPA First Drop having also launched in 2025.

First Drop, which combines four UK and US hops, was originally created as a limited-edition craft keg beer in Shepherd Neame’s Small Batch Brewery - a 15-barrel kit installed in 2023.

However, due to its popularity, it was produced in the main brewhouse on a larger scale and joined its permanent range.
