The average price of a pint of draught beer in British pubs has risen by 9p from the start of the year.

In January, the average price crashed through the £5 ceiling to reach £5.08 having been under £5 in 2024 – but the average price now is £5.17 a pint, according to data, which comes from The MA Pint Price Survey.

The exclusive research from The Morning Advertiser means the average price of a pint – as submitted by licensees across England, Wales and Scotland – is a staggering 34p higher than the findings of the Office of National Statistics in its latest data, dating back to February 2025.

The MA Pint Price Survey studies the average prices of pints across London, the Midlands, north-east, north-west, south-east, south-west, Scotland and Wales and includes more than 30 beer brands across the category including lagers, craft, cask and stout.

Craft and premium over £6

Craft beer favourites Camden Hells and BrewDog Punk IPA are currently the joint-highest priced pints across Great Britain, commanding an average price of £6.34 per 568ml.

Three premium lagers tipped over the £6 mark too – these being Peroni at £6.14, Asahi at £6.11 and Birra Moretti at £6.04.

Stella Artois is the most expensive core lager pint at £5.27 while Pedigree has ousted Timothy Taylor’s Landlord, thanks to London prices, with each costing an average of £5.16 and £5.12, respectively.

The surge of Guinness continues unabated with the average cost of a pint climbing from £5.37 in January 2025 to £5.56 now.

Midlands is cheapest

When it comes to regional differences, not surprisingly, London is still leading the way with publicans able to command an average price of £6.10 for a pint – where a Guinness will cost £6.45 and customers will pay £7.17 for a Birra Moretti and £7.05 for Camden Hells.

The cheapest average pint price in Great Britain is available in the Midlands, where pubs and bars can expect to garner £4.68. The region’s cheapest average beer prices include Tennent’s Lager, Carlsberg, Foster’s and Greene King IPA, priced at £3.50, £3.72, £3.80 and £3.85, respectively.

However, the survey results showed the average prices of pint rose by 5.15% between January and April 2025 in the Midlands while they fell in the capital by 1.22%.

Wales and the south-east saw the greatest hikes between the start of the year and now with 3.87% and 2.54% lifts, respectively.
