Hall & Woodhouse (H&W) and Urban Pubs & Bars have both confirmed pub reopenings in time for summer trading.

H&W will open the doors once more at the Quay, Poole, Dorset, with a new interactive games space.

The family brewer and pub operator purchased the pub in March 2025 before closing it two months later to undergo a renovation.

The Grade II-listed building on Poole Quay’s waterfront has undergone a transformation to create “a lighter, more contemporary feel without losing the charm of the historic building”, but the rear room is now home to shuffleboard, digital darts and table football – with the experiential side being a first for Hall & Woodhouse.

Hall & Woodhouse property director Mark James said: “We’re excited to reopen this fabulous waterside pub with a new games concept.

“We’re committed to continually enhancing our offering and know that multi-purpose spaces where friends can dine, drink and play are proving incredibly popular across the country.

New entertainment

“The Quay brings the games bar concept to Poole with a quality Hall & Woodhouse spin. We’ve created a bespoke Pick & Play grazing menu to complement the entertainment at the Quay too.”

The 12,500sq ft pub is split across two floors and provides more than 200 covers inside. Additional outdoor seating is available with views across Poole Harbour.

The Quay general manager Kane Chainey said: “I am so proud to have the opportunity to lead my team as we launch the first ever Hall & Woodhouse interactive games pub. We can’t wait to welcome locals and tourists alike into the Quay to enjoy all the new entertainment.”

Meanwhile Urban Pubs & Bars will reopen the Sun of Camberwell in south London on Friday (6 June) following a £1m refurbishment.

The London-based pub and dining group had shut the venue for six weeks while work took place.

Located on Coldharbour Lane, the site has been revived with key upgrades, including a revamped kitchen, newly landscaped front and rear outdoor areas, and refreshed interiors.

Cherished pub

Urban said the expansive rear garden is now among the largest in the Camberwell area and has been “designed for summer socialising, outdoor dining and weekend drinks with the space offering a relaxed setting for guests to enjoy”.

The upgraded kitchen will give a renewed focus on food with a seasonal British menu, created using that uses ingredients from suppliers such as HG Walter. Guests can expect modern pub dishes and bar snacks, with an “elevated” Sunday roast featuring a sharing lamb shoulder.

Urban Pubs & Bars managing director Chris Hill said: “The Sun is one of our most cherished neighbourhood pubs and we’re excited to be investing in its future.

“The upgraded kitchen and garden areas, alongside a strong food-led offer, reflect our commitment to providing great hospitality in great spaces. We’re looking forward to welcoming our guests back this June.”

The Sun also houses an area named The Parlour, which can be hired privately and accommodates up to 40 guests with access to both the main bar and the garden.
