EXCLUSIVE: Average pint price of lager is £5.15 – 32p higher than official figures

The average price of pint of lager in Great Britain is now £5.15, according to new data from The Morning Advertiser, which is a whopping 32p higher than Government figures.

ONS (office for National Statistics) data shows the most recent average pint price for lager in pubs and bars – from January 2025 – is £4.83 but The MA Pint Price Survey has discovered that price to be vastly undervalued.

The exclusive data looked at a number of ‘premium’ and ‘core’ lagers commonly available in the on-trade and has broken down the average lager pint price across Great Britain and also regions within England.

As expected, London has the most expensive average lager price at £6.07 with Birra Moretti, Amstel, Asahi, Peroni and Staropramen all tipping over the £6.60 mark, garnering licensees pint prices of £7.17, £6.66, £6.65, £6.63 and £6.60 respectively. The cheapest pints in the capital can be found in Carlsberg, Foster’s and Carling.

Cheapest areas

The area with the cheapest average pints of lager are the Midlands, the north-east and Wales. Pubs can expect to sell a pint for £4.53, £4.87 and £4.92 respectively.

The most expensive lager brand in the Midlands is Peroni at £5.63 and the wallet-saving Tennent’s Lager will set a customer back just £3.50.

Looking at brands overall, survey respondents have cited Carlsberg as the pint that will sell for the lowest price at an average of £4.23 while three beers have an average price of £6 across Great Britain – those being Peroni at £6.14, Asahi at £6.11 and Birra Moretti at £6.04.

Looking at the other regions – south-east, south-west, Scotland and north-west – the average price for a pint of lager is £5.58, £5.53, £5.48 and £5.08 respectively.

Prices in other areas

The pint that will bring in the most money in the south-east is Asahi at £6.75 while the most affordable is Coors Light at £4.68.

In the south-west, Asahi is again the top-priced pint at £6.18 while Carlsberg will set a customer back £4.71. Scotland’s most expensive lager is Birra Moretti at £7.50 while a Tennent’s will cost £4.68.

Finally, Peroni will cost a guest £6.15 a pint in the north-west while Foster’s is £4.08.

The exclusive data – compiled from survey results accrued in April 2025 – follows news the average price of a pint of all types will set a consumer back £5.17, a rise of 9p since the previous The MA Pint Price Survey.
