Role change: Amber Wood, newly appointed CEO of NWTC, celebrates strong performance driven by The Botanist’s refreshed offer and expansion.

Amber Wood said she was excited to lead the team into New World Trading Company (NWTC)’s next phase of evolution as she was appointed CEO of the business.

Wood joined the company as chief operating officer in August 2023 having previously held senior roles as managing director of Cosy Club and head of operations at Novus Leisure.

NWTC also announced its latest results with like-for-like sales up 7.4% in the 17 weeks to 27 July 2025, marking the company’s sixth consecutive quarter of growth.

This has been underpinned by a renewed focus on The Botanist brand, the business said, as well as a new food menu, drinks range and service offer.

Renewed energy

Its new flagship Botanist in Bournemouth exceeded expectations, delivering cumulative sales of £1.6m since its launch in May.

NWTC’s conversion of The Furnace to The Botanist in Sheffield has resulted in an 80% uplift in sales compared to the same period before its change.

Wood said: “I am absolutely thrilled with the progress the business has made. The renewed energy across our brands and operations is down to the incredible hard work and dedication of our brilliant teams and the response from guests has been fantastic.

“With the Botanist’s refresh, new openings and new offer, we have built real momentum.”

Next growth phase

She added: “I’m also delighted our single-site brands are trading exceptionally well. The Oast House for example, hit a record in may, only to surpass it again in July.

“I am very excited to be leading the team into our next phase evolution.”

This came as the company also announced the appointment of Jon Hire as its new chief financial officer, replacing Glenn Pearson, who stood down from the position in August.

Hire has previously held roles at Steer Automotive Group and Student Roost as well as a period in hospitality as group financial controller of Enterprise Inns.

He said: “I’m joining the business at a pivotal time, with transformation well underway and I’m looking forward to working closely with the team to help steer the next phase of growth.”

As reported in March, 2024 saw the company strengthen its leadership team and streamline its focus on The Botanist brand, it said in a trading update at the time.
