Estate expansion: Urban Pubs & Bars acquires Albion & East (Urban Pubs & Bars)

Urban Pubs & Bars has acquired Albion & East, adding four all-day venues to its growing London estate and strengthening its position as the capital’s largest independent pub group.

The acquisition includes Teatro Hall in Ealing, Canova Hall in Brixton, Botanica Hall in Clapham Junction, and Serata Hall in the City of London.

All existing Albion & East team members will transfer to Urban Pubs & Bars as part of the deal.

The move follows a period of rapid growth for Urban, which has completed several new openings and acquisitions since May 2025, including St John’s Tavern in Archway, The Marlborough Head in Covent Garden, The Bald Faced Stag in East Finchley, The Highbury Barn Tavern, and Bat and Ball in Covent Garden.

Urban Pubs & Bars previously acquired Martello Hall from Albion & East in January 2025, relaunching it as The London Fields in February following significant investment.

The latest acquisition builds on Urban’s momentum - last year it said it was “poised for expansion” following double-digit like-for-like growth and turnover of £52.2m in FY23.

Urban MD Chris Hill said: “Albion & East is a business we’ve long admired. Their venues share our passion for great design, fresh, high-quality food and drink, and genuine neighbourhood hospitality. We’re delighted to welcome their teams into the Urban family and look forward to supporting these outstanding venues through their next chapter.”

The group also reported strong trading, with like-for-like sales up 8.7% since the start of the financial year in May and turnover approaching £100m over the past 12 months.
