Urban Pubs & Bars has delivered its strongest festive trading performance to date, posting like for like sales growth of 14.5% in December and a 40% increase in total covers across its estate.

Managing director Chris Hill said the results marked the group’s best Christmas on record.

‘Best Christmas ever’

“We’ve delivered our best Christmas ever. The energy across the business continues to be fantastic, and this performance is a huge credit to our teams. Finishing the year so strongly puts us in a brilliant position as we head into the new year.”

The bumper period caps a sustained run of growth for the London based operator, supported by ongoing investment and an active acquisition strategy.

This week Urban confirmed the purchase of the Birdcage in Columbia Road from BrewDog, its sixth acquisition of 2026 to date, following a five site package announced last week which included The Prince Regent in Herne Hill and four established pubs acquired from Brunning & Price.

The business also completed the acquisition of Albion & East late last year, adding four all day venues to its portfolio as the group expands its position as London’s largest independent pub operator.

‘Robust demand’

Urban said the combination of festive trading and recent acquisitions reflects robust demand across its estate and confidence in further investment.

Hill added: “The strength of our underlying performance, driven by our brilliant team of operators, gives us the confidence to further invest in London. We look forward to welcoming new teams into the Urban family.”

Urban Pubs & Bars, which is a finalist in two categories of The Publican Awards 2026, continues to target neighbourhood led, premium sites across the capital as it outperforms the wider UK hospitality market.
