Ardent Pub Group has been certified as a B Corporation, becoming one of a small number of pub and hospitality operators to secure the accreditation.

The UK based operator achieved an overall B Impact Score of 100.4, comfortably above the 80 point threshold required for certification and almost double the current median score of 50.9 for businesses completing the assessment.

Fresh certification

Certified this week, Ardent operates within the beverage serving and bars category and is classified under the “Service with Significant Environmental Footprint” sector.

B Corp status is awarded to businesses that meet verified standards of social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency across governance, workers, community, environment and customers.

Ardent scored 16.2 in governance, which assesses mission, stakeholder engagement, ethics and transparency, and includes recognition for formally locking its mission into its corporate structure.

‘Gold standard’

The group describes itself as focused on delivering the “gold standard of public houses”, creating pubs rooted in local communities and guided by commitments to quality, inclusivity and long term stewardship.

Within the pub and brewing sector, B Corp certification remains relatively rare but is gathering momentum. Operators that have achieved certification include The Culpeper Family Hospitality Group, which operates The Duke Organic; Welsh brewery and pub operator Tiny Rebel; and The Pig Hotels, the modern pub-with-rooms concept that operates nine sites across the UK.

BrewDog, the Scotland based brewer and pub operator, previously achieved B Corp certification but stepped away from the scheme in 2022.

The accreditation comes at a time when scrutiny of hospitality’s environmental and social impact continues to intensify, with operators increasingly formalising sustainability and community commitments through recognised third-party frameworks.
