VIDEO: Stars on show talk about Publican Awards and the future

As more than 1,500 guests flocked to The Publican Awards last week, we had a quick chat with a few of the operators and trade body representatives.

The event took place at Evolution London, which sits on the bank of the River Thames in London, on Wednesday 25 March.

A trio of great hosts – TV star Rylan, the hilarious Mark Durden-Smith and editor of The Morning Advertiser (The MA) Ed Bedington – took care of the awards ceremony as the best in the industry filled up a whopping 143 tables.

A bit of spice

The MA managed to grab Barons Pub Company managing director Clive Price who said the team and himself were excited to be at the awards and to be in with a chance of winning gave the evening “a bit of spice”.

He went on to say the upcoming 12 months will prove to be “an interesting year” that will undoubtedly add cost pressures all round.

Meanwhile, British Institute of Innkeeping CEO Steve Alton said The Publican Awards is “a brilliant story, as ever” and a great chance to see so many industry friends too.

On the upcoming year, Alton said: “Trade is really tough, it’s never been tougher.” But on a positive note, he added “innovation will bear out and people will keep coming out”.

Buzzing

Two thirds of the co-founding team at Chickpea Group were present as well with manging director Ethan Davids stating he was “buzzing” for the awards evening while his sister and people & culture director Jordan Davids was “very excited and looking forward to it”.

Ethan added that although the future looks tough, there is opportunity and it’s exciting.

UKHospitality CEO Allen Simpson also stopped to talk to The MA and described the evening as “a really joyous thing to be part of”.

“People will put money towards going out,” he added, “and in a year’s time, we will be in a stronger position than we are now.”
