Multiple operator Butcombe Group has reopend the newly expanded Brown Cow in Fulham, west London after the company’s largest single investment in the capital to date.

After undergoing two months of renovation and expansion into a neighbouring site as part of Butcombe’s £1.3m cash injection, the pub reopened to the public on Saturday 9 May as a significantly larger venue.

This latest investment represents the group’s next phase in a busy period of growth, revealing plans for investment in three further sites this quarter, partly due to the strategic refinancing of its debt facilities recently.

There is already work underway at the Mayflower in Lymington while there is set to be redevelopment at the Dundas Arms in Kintbury and the Methuen Arms in Corsham next month (June).

Fantastic milestone

Butcombe Group COO Jayson Perfect said: “The reopening of the Brown Cow is a fantastic milestone for us and as our largest single investment in the capital, is reflective of our belief in the site, the city and our proposition.

“London continues to be a hugely exciting market and this pub demonstrates how our approach works when we combine brilliant teams, great locations and outstanding guest experiences.”

Perfect said: “This expansion allows us to serve more guests, extend dwell time and broaden the occasions on which people choose to visit - whether that’s for drinks, dining, watching sport or celebrating something special.

“People are understandably more conscious about how they spend and that is why it’s more important than ever pubs deliver genuine value for money as well as memorable experiences.”

Perfectly positioned

He added: “We’re seeing a clear appetite for premium, experience-led pubs in neighbourhood locations and the Brown Cow is now perfectly positioned to meet that demand while remaining very much a local at heart.”

Earlier this month (May), Butcombe CEO Jonathan Lawson outlined how growth hasn’t halted but it has become more selective.

He highlighted how across the firm’s London managed pub estate, like-for-like sales were up 11.6% in the group’s last trading year, providing the confidence to continue investing where demand is clear and sustainable.

Moreover, Butcombe was named Best Pub Employer (501+ employees) at this year’s Publican Awards.
