The annual event of Beer Day Britain is upon us again and event founder Jane Peyton is celebrating its 11th anniversary.

And one pub joining in festivities is the Old Horse in Leicester, which will give away a staggering 162 pints on Monday 15 June in celebration of the fact it is 162 years old.

Peyton hopes the fact Beer Day Britain falls on a Monday will help boosts sales on a traditionally quiet trading day.

She said: “Beer Day Britain is always a fun and positive celebration. In previous years, pubs have marked the occasion with special events, quiz nights, and beer & food matching menus. Some have even assembled teams to compete in Beer Day Britain’s Got Talent by singing Cheers To Beer, the official anthem of Beer Day Britain.”

Great beer and people

At the Old Horse, 162 pints will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis, offering a fitting tribute to the pub’s long-standing place at the heart of the community. Those taking part can choose from a free pint of Guinness, Cruzcampo, Everards Tiger and Heineken 0.0.

Sam Hagger, founder of The Beautiful Pubs Collective, which counts the Old Horse as one of its site, said: “The Old Horse has always been about great beer and great people, so giving away 162 pints felt like the perfect way to celebrate the legacy of this amazing pub as well as Beer Day Britain.

“Beer Day Britain, the national celebration of UK beer, provides the perfect backdrop for the event, bringing together beer lovers across the country to champion pubs and brewing heritage.

“Known for its wide range of beers on tap, including a stand-out Guinness offering, the Old Horse continues to balance tradition with quality, ensuring every pint poured lives up to its reputation. The historic pub has recently reopened after completing a £1m joint investment with Everards of Leicestershire.”

Supernatural ability

Beer Day Britain is a celebration of all beer from mainstream lager to limited-edition craft beer and everything in between no matter where it is brewed – with alcohol and alcohol-free, Peyton said.

Each year, the focus of Beer Day Britain is the National Cheers To Beer toast at 7pm. Peyton added the hashtag #cheerstobeer always trends on social media.

She added: “Beer has a supernatural ability to unite people and get the party started. Beer is Britain’s national alcoholic drink so you could say that every day is beer day but 15 June is an extra special day and one to bring the nation together to say Cheers To Beer.”
