James Blunt becomes multi-site pub operator

Blunt, the owner of the Fox and Pheasant in Chelsea has taken on the 19th century pub on the Hammersmith and Chiswick border, with Toby Milne responsible for operations.

The new proprietors take over the pub from today (23 July).

Wren Pubs, founded by publican Jack Greenall, acquired the Carpenter’s Arms in July 2024 and carried out a refurbishment of the bar area, first floor private dining room and garden.

The business said sales at the site had doubled over the past two years.

Greenall said the sale had been a “difficult decision” but added Wren was pleased with what had been achieved at the pub.

He said: “Having worked hard to bring this beloved venue back to life, it felt like the perfect moment to pass the pub into new ownership.

“I am looking forward to the Carpenter’s Arms continuing to receive the attention it deserves. I couldn’t think of a better team to continue its legacy.”

‘An honour’

Blunt said: “It’s an honour to be the custodian of this beautiful and important local landmark.

“I know how much it means to the residents, and I hope we can serve them as well as they have been by Jack and his team. I look forward to seeing you there.”

Pub specialist broker AG&G acted for Wren Pubs on the transaction.

Greenall said Wren would continue to focus on the Surprise and the Walmer Castle, alongside its latest project at 7 Sloane Square.

In March, the secured the former Botanist site at Sloane Square, which is set to reopen as a neighbourhood pub after refurbishment.

He added the group was also exploring further opportunities, ideally with bedrooms in London.

The sale comes after Wren Pubs acquired the freehold of the Carpenter’s Arms and the Walmer Castle earlier this year, as part of its long term investment strategy in London.
