There were a few tears but mostly the opening of the floodgates when it came to saying what it meant for the operators, the pub itself, the teams that make these sites work and their customers.
The evening itself saw hundreds of guests and finalists eagerly awaiting who were set to win in the 16 categories up for grabs and the additional category of overall Great British Pub of the Year.
