The development would bring currently underused commercial and storage space back into use and create new jobs alongside opportunities for independent food and drink operators.
Food and events expansion
Plans include a 220sq m food hall featuring independent food operators, a coffee shop, seating and a Docks Beers retail area.
The brewer said it was already in discussions with a local food operator and was seeking independent coffee businesses for the development.
A separate 585sq m events venue, named The Warehouse, would also be created, offering around two and a half times the floor space of the existing Docks Academy.
The venue is planned to host conferences, markets, weddings, festivals, corporate events and larger entertainment.
Investment in brewing
The plans follow Nick and Jay Kirkham acquiring a controlling interest in Docks Beers in March 2025.
Director Nick Kirkham said: “Over the last 18 months we’ve spent a lot of time listening and learning. We’ve assembled a fantastic management team, developed a clear vision for the future, and we’re incredibly excited about what’s to come.
“Our expansion is about creating a destination that brings people together while showcasing the very best of Grimsby.”
The investment comes during a challenging period for the wider brewing sector.
Molson Coors recently confirmed Sharp’s Brewery in Cornwall will close at the end of 2026, while Carlsberg Britvic has proposed closing the historic Marston’s Brewery in Burton upon Trent in summer 2027 amid declining cask volumes.
Docks Beers said its proposals were now progressing through the planning process.
