The countdown is on to sign up for the World’s Biggest Pub Quiz, which has already 700 pubs, clubs and bars registered to participate.

Running between 9 May to 15 May, quiz organiser PubAid is confident this year’s event will hit an all-time high in pub and customer participation and money raised for charities including Shelter – this year’s quiz partner.

All pubs signing up to host a quiz will receive a free fundraising pack including posters and social media assets, to help them host a quiz that brings customers into their pub for a fun-filled evening that raises money for a worthy cause.

PubAid is working with online quiz platform Kwizzbit, which allows licensees to host a fun pub quiz on their smartphone, with technology making it easier to run and offering features such as real time leader boards that make it more engaging for customers. A traditional ‘pen and paper’ version is also available.

Fun event in person

Pubs need to register by 22 April to receive a printed pack or can sign up later and print the materials themselves.

PubAid co-founder Des O’Flanagan said: “We’re delighted to bring back the World’s Biggest Pub Quiz after two years of disruption due to the pandemic. There’s certainly an appetite among licensees and their customers for a fun event that’s in person rather than on Zoom, and we’re seeing a response on a par with pre-Covid years.

“With a month to go, there’s still time for licensees to sign up for this quiz which is completely free, easy to run and a great way to remind customers what they love about the pub. It’s also raising much-needed funds for worthy causes including Shelter, whose work has never been more important.”

He added: “Although we’re promoting 9-15 May as the main week for the World’s Biggest Pub Quiz, licensees can choose to run it any time that month, or in the first week of June to coincide with the long weekend of Platinum Jubilee celebrations.”

Funds raised can be split

In addition to individual pubs, pub companies supporting the quiz include Admiral Taverns, Brakspear, Ember Inns, Everards, Fuller’s, Greene King, Hall & Woodhouse, Joseph Holt, Marston’s, Punch Pubs, Robinsons, Shepherd Neame, St Austell Brewery, Star Pubs & Bars, Stonegate, Trust Inns, Wadworth and Wells & Co.

Money raised in the Quiz will help Shelter give information, advice and support to those facing homelessness. Pubs are encouraged to host the quiz in aid of Shelter, but have the freedom to support another charity, or divide funds raised between Shelter and a cause closer to home.
