Heineken 0.0 hits 1,000 draught taps in UK

Those moderating their alcohol intake are the “new vegetarians” who will influence which pubs and bars their wider group will visit on a day or night out.

Heineken 0.0 has reached a landmark 1,000 draught taps in the UK – making it the most widely available low & no alcohol draught drink in the country.

Since its launch just three years ago, Heineken 0.0 is now available in one in every three pubs across the UK, the brewer claimed.

To mark this milestone, Heineken, its 0.0 ambassador and former Wales and Real Madrid football star Gareth Bale and 114 pubs and breweries teamed up to set a new Guinness World Records title for the most pints poured simultaneously online.

The 1,000th tap installation took place at London’s Clerk & Well pub – a Stonegate Group-managed pub – on Clerkenwell Road, central London.

The Star Pubs sites are part of the managed-operated Just Add Talent estate and saw each of them pulling a pint online simultaneously.

Heart of British culture

As part of a strict online process, a Guinness World Record adjudicator oversaw the ground-breaking moment as, in just 10 seconds, 114 publicans and brewers from across the UK simultaneously poured pints of either Heineken or Heineken 0.0 in sync via a mass video call.

Heineken said the pub is “at the heart of British culture and part of its enduring appeal lies in its ability to adapt to the times and the changing tastes of the public”.

The brewer and pub operator continued: “With over a third (33.5%) of UK adults drinking low & no alternatives more frequently than a year ago[1], today, low & no alcohol beer is rapidly becoming a way of life.

“The demand for low & no draught increased a stagging 105% from 2023 to 2024 alone[2], and, thanks to innovations led by Heineken in the UK, 1,000 pubs across the country are now pouring pints of Heineken 0.0% beer on tap, making Heineken 0.0 the largest no and low-lager brand in the UK[3]. Accounting for 28% of low & no lager value sales, Heineken is twice the size of its closest competitor in terms of volume share in the low & no lager category[4].”

Stonegate Group’s group commercial director Nick Marks said: “To be able to offer our guests Heineken 0.0 on draught is a massive step forward for us, and the 1,000th tap install is a huge milestone for the category, which is why we’re beyond proud that our venue is the home to the historic 1,000th tap.”

0.0% becoming the norm

Bale, who also played football for Tottenham and Southampton, added: “As a bar owner, it’s fantastic to see 0.0% beer taps becoming the norm, taking their rightful place on the bar alongside traditional beer taps.

“It means people can walk into their local and have the chance to enjoy a proper pint, whether it contains alcohol or not – there’s always a choice.”

Meanwhile, Heineken UK on-trade director Will Rice said: “We’ve spent nearly a decade investing in low & no beer to ensure people have a genuine, great-tasting choice but if we want non-alcoholic beer to be treated the same as other beer, we need to give it the same visibility too.

“Putting 0.0% beer on draught in pubs and housed alongside regular pints is essential as it helps removes the stigma and makes ordering an alcohol-free option at the bar just as natural as any other.”
