Wet-led pub operator Amber Taverns has revealed its expansion plans alongside its festive trading figures in a recent update.

From 19 December 2025 to 4 January 2026, the business saw like-for-like sales up 9% alongside like-for-like sales growth in 25 of the past 26 weeks.

The 187-strong group also cited recent openings. Last month, Amber Taverns opened three sites in Smethwick (west Midlands), Whitchurch (Cardiff) and Nottingham city centre.

All three venues received extensive investment and refurbishment before opening in December last year.

New openings

The business said recently opened sites were performing well and in many cases, ahead of expectations with the performance of these new openings reinforcing the appeal of community pubs, reflecting the strength of Amber’s retail model, combining well-invested sites, competitive pricing and highly-engaged operators.

It announced it was looking to add approximately 20 new pubs to its portfolio each year.

Next month (February), it is set to open its 188th site in Helensburgh, Scotland, which will trade as the Comet, after a significant investment.

Additional sites in Weymouth, Barnstaple and Salisbury have been secured and are due to open in the spring.

Amber said its “operator-managed” retail model in its entirely wet-led portfolio meant it was well positioned and by focusing exclusively on drink sales and customer experience, it offered a great product range and value for money, alongside a strong sports offer and live entertainment.

Strong performance

Chief executive Mark Brooke said: “We are pleased with this strong trading performance, which once again demonstrates the continued relevance and appeal of well-run, wet-led pubs and their ability to generate sustainable growth in the communities we serve.

“Looking ahead, we continue to see attractive opportunities across a wide range of towns and cities and plan to open 20 new pubs this year.

“We are excited to have a healthy pipeline of opportunities on which to deliver our growth plan while being able to continue to expand our geographical footprint.”

In a trading update last October, the group shared initial expansion plans alongside positive sales results, demonstrating its “resilience”.
