Owner Myles said the past 18 months had been “extremely difficult” for small businesses, particularly in hospitality.
He said: “Relentless increases in costs beyond my control, combined with current Government policies that have placed even greater strain on independent businesses, have left me with no choice but to close.”
The operator said that despite “pouring everything” into keeping the business alive, it was no longer viable.
“The reality is that I can no longer make it work even though we have been busy.”
Cost pressures
The closure comes as hospitality operators continue to warn of sustained pressure from rising employment costs, energy bills, business rates and weaker consumer confidence.
The British Beer and Pub Association reported that 161 pubs closed across England, Scotland and Wales in the first three months of this year, equivalent to almost two a day, following 336 closures in 2025.
In the statement, Myles said Little Tap & Terrarium had been his “life” for the past 10 years and said he was “incredibly proud” of everything the business had achieved.
He thanked staff, customers and supporters for helping to build the venue and said he hoped policymakers would recognise the impact on independent businesses.
He said: “I sincerely hope those making decisions affecting our industry begin to recognise the devastating impact they are having on independent businesses before more livelihoods, dreams and communities are lost.”
The operator said he would now be stepping back to “process everything” and consider his future.
