Brixton Spirits and Brixton Distillery have combined and the new business, which will be called Brixton Spirits, will have a line-up of six products - Brixton Gin, Brixton Vodka, Brixton Rum, Brixton Aged Rum, Market Row Botanical Rum and Market Row “The Dram” - a spiced rum liquor.
It has a London focus with about 80% of sales by volume going to the on-trade, offering premium spirits at ‘ultra-competitive’ prices through five-litre bag-in-box formats.
Business goal
Brixton Spirits fonder Andrew Murray-Watson said: “The merger of the two businesses gives us a fantastic product line-up and two great brands, backed by strong trademark protection.
“Our goal now is to grow the business sustainably, in what remains a challenging market for premium spirits - particularly in the on-trade.
“Thankfully we are now seeing increasing signs the industry is responding to customer demand for products from independent producers rather than the same big brands behind the bar.”
Products are made with botanicals sourced from within Brixton including local raw honey, which is used on all the Brixton branded drinks.
Company reputation
He added: “Brixton is renowned throughout the UK and internationally as a vibrant neighbourhood and a food and drink destination.
“That means our products need little introduction when they appear on cocktail lists and on the shelves of bottle stores in places like Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester and Edinburgh.”
Both Brixton Spirits and Brixton Distillery launched in 2020 with the former founded by Murray-Watson and his partner Calandra Smith.
Brixton Distillery was founded by Laurent Lacassagne and Pat Venning. Lacassagne died in December 2024. On the merger announcement, his partner Mel Stack said: “I am delighted Laurent’s vision for Brixton Distillery and his long legacy in the wine and spirits industry will live on with our long-term partner and new owner Brixton Spirits.”
