The Sir Frank Whittle opens today (Wednesday 26 August) at Heathrow’s Terminal 2 (airside, after security), creating 100 new jobs.
Named after English engineer, investor and RAF officer, the pub will be open from 4am until 11pm seven days a week.
Food will be served until 10pm daily while its drinks offer will specialise in real ales and traditional ciders as well as crat and world beers, serving a range of draught ales alongside bottled beers, featuring local and regional brewers.
Great addition
It will be open for family dining with children who are accompanied by an adult welcome throughout the week and the pub will also be wheelchair accessible.
Décor will feature historical photos and details of local history as well as artwork and images of local scenes and characters of the area.
Manager of the pub Tom Blacktop, who previously managed the Beehive at Gatwick, said: “Myself at my team are looking forward to welcoming customer into the Sir Frank Whittle and we are confident that pub will be a great addition to the choice on offer for customers travelling through Heathrow.”
The company announced it was set to open the site last month (July), marking its 10th airport pub.
Airport sites
Other airport venues include two already at Heathrow - the Crown Rivers in Terminal 5 and Star Light in Terminal 4.
This is in addition to the Red Lion at Gatwick North Terminal, the Beehive a the West Sussex’s South Terminal (landside) and Flying Horse, also at the South Terminal (airside).
Furthermore, the pub group also has the Windmill at Stansted, Wetherspoon at Birmingham Airport, the Sir Walter Scott at Edinburgh Airport and Castell de Santa Barbara at Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernandez Airport, which opened in January.
There are also plans to open more at Manchester Airport in September this year alongside two separate sites at Barcelona Airport, which are set to open their doors in the coming months.
