SAV Pubs goes through pre-pack
Four-strong SAV Pubs is the latest company to undergo a pre-pack administration.
The company, which was founded in 2004 and run by Australian Mark van der Goot and his wife Sharlyn, had four Punch leasehold pubs in south-east London.
Its sites are now run by the same management under the auspices of a new company called Boomerang Pub Company, which was incorporated last year.
Among it sites are the Greyhound pub in Battersea High Street, a favourite lunch spot for
Andrew Lloyd-Webber.
Vittorio Maschio, who supplies fresh pasta through his company Vima Limited, said: "We need to have a change in the law.
"This is happening far too often and when it does there is nothing to protect small suppliers like myself. I am between £700-£800 out of pocket which may not sound like a huge amount but to a small business it is a lot. It happened with Tom Aikens's restaurant. I am very annoyed."
SAV Pubs also owned the Rosendale on Rosendale Road, and pubs in West Wickham and Bromley. SAV Pubs had a turnover of around £2m in its most recent year. Administrator for SAV Pubs is Grant Thornton.
Mark van der Goot studied at the William Blue Hotel Management School in Sydney. He gained accreditation in wine marketing and as a sommelier from Roseworthy College Adelaide and TAFE New South Wales before going on to work at fine-dining restaurants Moran's and Aria in Sydney.
It was at Aria that he met David Levin, owner of the Capital Group in London, and "rather cheekily asked him for a job". He moved to the UK in 2001 to take up the post of head sommelier at the Greenhouse, and in December 2004 opened the Greyhound in Battersea.
