Peter Salussolia, founder of pub, bar and restaurant company Glendola Leisure, has received an OBE for services to the hospitality industry in the Queen’s birthday honours list.

He established Glendola Leisure 40 years ago. The company, currently run by his son, Alex, now operates 17 including flagship sites Waxy O’Connor’s and Rainforest Café in central London.

The 68 year-old was also a founding member of the Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers, where he’s currently vice chairman.

Patrick Dempsey, managing director of Whitbread Hotels & Restaurants, also received an OBE. He has held the role since 2007 and has overseen the development of brands including Beefeater and Brewer’s Fayre.

Other industry figures to receive awards include Kellie Rixon, group brand development director at De Vere Group, who received an MBE.

The award was also given to Adam Peirson, sous chef at Claridge’s restaurant, and restaurateur Oliver Peyton.
