The Warwickshire-based bar and restaurant group behind venues including pubs the Royal Pug, the Fat Pug and the Black Pug in Warwick, and the Lazy Pug in Shipston is continuing to expand with plans for a new Pug venue.

Beer & Coffee Company plans to open the Lost Pug in the village of Northend in south-east Warwickshire this year.

It follows the launch of its latest Pug venue, the Micro Pug in Leamington Spa, which opened in December 2023 in the site that was formerly Beer & Coffee Company’s Procaffeinate coffee shop.

Street food takeovers

Described as a twist on the existing Pug Pubs brand, unlike the other Pug locations, the Micro Pug does not have a kitchen team and instead every week invites a new street food trader takes over the kitchen for the weekend. The current trader at the venue is Midlands-based burger concept Stripclub Streetfood.

The Micro Pug also hosts tap takeovers from craft brewers, featuring promotions such as ‘kill the keg’.

Founded by Matt and Alex Crowther in 2012 with the opening of the Fat Pug in Leamington Spa, Beer & Coffee Company also launched cheese and cocktail bar concept Katoi in Leamington Spa in December 2023.

20 different cheeses

Located on Tavistock Street, it serves a menu of 20 different cheeses supplied by Aubrey Allen alongside a range of cocktails and an extensive wine list. In the basement is what the company says is Warwickshire’s smallest cinema, with just six seats.

In addition, the company says it is now actively searing for locations for a franchise model of its Greek restaurant brand Taverna Meraki, which launched in Leamington town centre in spring 2023.

Matt Crowther joined The Morning Advertiser’s editor Ed Bedington to talk about the latest goings-on in the sector in the Review of the Week.
