PPL pub and club income rises
Public performance grew 18% to £64.8m in 2012, which follows a 10% increase in the previous year.
“PPL’s public performance sector had a particularly successful 2O12,” the group said in its Annual Review. “An enhanced focus on raising awareness levels of the requirement for many businesses to hold PPL licences, supported by improved internal processes, led to significant increases in the number of premises licensed.”
The report says PPL increased the level of business-to-business marketing and held campaigns to increase awareness of the need for licences in different regions.
The report makes no mention of PPL’s plan to increase fees under the Specially Featured Entertainment (SFE) tariff.
The body had been discussion with pub industry representatives about the proposal to increase SFE fees by up to 4,000% for the biggest nightclubs.
