Pub staff were threatened with crowbars during a raid at a Midlands pub.

Four masked men burst into the staff quarters of the Newdigate Arms in Bedworth, Warwickshire, at around 12.30am on Monday.

A woman was forced to show two of the intruders the location of the safe. The raiders kicked open the door of the office and the female employee was made to open the safe.

The men fled with an undisclosed amount of money in the direction of Arbury Avenue.

Police said the four men all wore tracksuits with the Le Coq emblem. They spoke in what is described as a 'Jamaican-style Birmingham accent.

One of the male residents, who was made to lie on the floor, had his gold bracelet taken from him.

Four charged over petrol bombing

Four people two of them under 18 have been charged in connection with a 'petrol bomb attack at a Peterborough pub.

A vodka bottle filled with petrol and a flaming piece of rag was thrown at the Golden Lion pub in Church Street, Stanground, at around 9.30pm on Wednesday last week. It failed to explode when it hit the building and nobody was hurt.

Four males two aged 18, one aged 17 and one aged 16 were arrested and charged in connection with the incident. They are due to appear at Peterborough Magistrates Court tomorrow (Friday).

A 19-year-old was also arrested but has not been charged. He is due to appear at the police station on 21 July.

Man accused of Manchester murder

A 26-year-old is due to appear in court today, charged with the murder of a man at a Greater Manchester pub.

John Curran, 44, of Ayr Grove in Darnhill, Heywood, suffered head injuries after he was attacked at the Highlander Hotel on Sutherland Road on Saturday 18 June.

He was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital but died the following Monday.

Simon Hogan, of Queens Park Road, Heywood, was remanded at Rochdale Magistrates Court on Thursday last week. He is due to appear at Manchester Crown Court today.

Cleaner traumatised in Cornish pub raid

Two armed raiders tied up a cleaner and escaped with around £1,000 from a Cornish pub last week.

Wearing balaclavas and armed with a baseball bat and crowbar, they entered the Sandbar pub shortly after the cleaner had opened up at 5.15am last Monday.

The male cleaner was threatened, bound with electrical cables and shut in a toilet while the raiders emptied cash from games machines and pool tables.

Licensee Steve Crofts said the cleaner, in his early 50s, was highly traumatised by the attack and may not return to work.

He added: 'They used a disproportionate amount of force for what was a relatively small amount of money. There also seems to be a certain amount of local knowledge and they knew when the cleaner arrived for work.

One of the raiders is described as 6ft tall, dark haired with a pony-tail and having a big nose. He is said to speak in a soft West Country accent.

The other perpetrator is said to be shorter, stockier and with a pot belly. Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Harvey of Helston CID on 0845 2777444.

Police in hunt for creosote thugs

Three customers were drenched in creosote wood preservative while at a Shropshire pub.

Two thugs entered the Crown in High Street, Bridgnorth, and poured the substance over the three customers and the furniture. Nobody was hurt in the attack, which happened at around 11.40am on Friday last week. But the pub had to be closed for almost six hours for staff to clear up.

Police are looking for a male and a female, who both wore scarves and hooded tops.
