The Pony & Trap in Chew Magna, Somerset, has been awarded a prestigious Michelin star in the Michelin guide Great Britain & Ireland 2011.

The pub is run by former Gordon Ramsay scholar Josh Eggleton.

He bought the freehold from Punch Taverns last year.

They are one of 12 eateries awarded one star in the 2011 guide, with 123 sites holding the accolade in the UK.

But the Star Inn, Harome, run by Andrew and Jacquie Pern, has lost the Michelin star it has retained since 2002.

There are now ten pubs with a Michelin star in total — the same number as last year.

The Black Swan in Oldstead, North Yorkshire, run by the Banks family, retains their rising star which they were awarded last year and recognises eateries tipped for one, two or three stars.

There are also nine pubs that have achieved a Michelin Bib Gourmand for "good food at moderate prices." Pubs account for nearly a third of the new Bib Gourmands with 26 awarded in the guide.

These are:

• the New Inn, Backwell, Bristol

• Jolly Cricketers in Seer Green, Buckinghamshire

• Carpenters Arms in Burford, Oxfordshire

• Freemasons Country Inn in Wiswell, Lancashire

• Crown in Burchett's Green, Berkshire

• Magdalen Arms in Oxford

• Purefoy Arms in Preston Candover, Hampshire

• Cat Inn, West Hoathly, West Sussex

• Bull Inn, Wimbourne St Giles, Dorset.

• Granville in Lower Hardres, Kent

• Royal Well Tavern in Cheltenham, Gloucester

• Coach & Horses in Danehill, East Sussex

• Green Dragon in Haddenham, Buckinghamshire
