A Devon pub has been given a reprieve after the new licensee vowed not to serve her partner, the former landlord, according to a report in the Herald Express.

According to the report Jennifer Roberts has been in a relationship with Paignton-based Paddy's Bar owner Patrick Walsh for 17 months but has vowed not to serve him after concerns were raised.

Torbay Council's licensing sub committee held a hearing to review Mr Walsh's licence.

Police officers said Walsh had been found drunk at the premises and raised issues about crime and disorder associated with the venue and the poor quality of CCTV footage.

Walsh sent a letter to the council saying he wanted Ms Roberts to now take over running the bar.

In the letter he stated: "I would stress I would have no further involvement in the running of Paddy's Bar other than that of a financial partner."

Miss Roberts told the licensing committee: "If I become the designated premises supervisor, if he has one too many then I will not serve him."

Chairman of the committee Counsillor Peter Addis said: "I think you fully understand that this really is the last-chance saloon."

The committee decided that Mr Walsh should be removed from the pub licence and added 11 further conditions including installing a CCTV system that provided images of the evidential standard needed by police.
