Brothers Cider is canvassing votes in what it is calling “the world’s most creative petition” to see if it should bring back its lemon flavoured cider.

The variant was ditched back in 2011 but since then the Shepton Mallet-based cidermaker says it has been “inundated” with requests to bring it back.

“But we need to ensure demand would be high enough to deliver a strong rate-of-sale and add real value for retailers,” said a spokeswoman.

“So we have created a petition and are inviting consumers to show their love of lemon.”

Fans can register their vote on the brand’s webpage by drawing on a lemon and adding their vote. The more lemons they draw the more chance there is that the flavour will be re-introduced.

Brothers is also promoting its four-flavoured font this month. The tap comes with 750ml bottles of strawberry, toffee apple or wild fruit syrups to enable licensees to offer a range of Brothers cider on draught.

At the end of February the company revealed a new look for the brand to celebrate its fifth birthday, which included its Tutti Frutti flavour being re-badged as Wild Fruit.

This October The Publican's Morning Advertiser is running its first Cider Trends Summit in Bristol. Speakers include Paul Bartlett, chair of the National Association of Cider Makers, Danny Hawkins, Commercial Executive, Punch Taverns, Richard Yarnell, Category Manager, Mitchells & Butlers and Richard Cooper, Owner, The Stable.
