Cider maker Aspall is making two of its Waddlegoose Lane-branded ciders available in draught and bottles.

Launched in a bag-in-box format 12 months ago, the Waddlegoose Lane ciders to make the switch are 4.6% ABV sparkling cider Deben Draught, and Three Berry – a 3.8% ABV cider with hedgerow fruit.

Both were added to the range in March, and were made immediately available in Tesco.

The Waddlegoose Lane range started out life as a limited edition cider for a JD Wetherspoon cider festival in 2013.

The brand is labelled as produced by, ‘Hall Farm, Aspall’ and takes its name from a small lane that lies just outside the cidermaker’s Suffolk property.

Bird theme

The other ciders in the range, all named after old Suffolk birds, comprise: Spadger (4.5% ABV), King Harry (7.4% ABV), Hayjack (2.8% ABV) and Woodsprite (5.8% ABV).

Speaking at the launch of the new formats, Aspall director Henry Chevallier Guild conceded that draught cider still faces challenges from the licensee regarding “demand and sustainability” of having a second tap.

However, he added: "In the last seven years Aspall cider volumes have grown year on year by 5.4%.

“We'll be making a £2.7m investment this year, £1.9m of that will be spent on apple pressing.”
