Scottish Courage gets new bottling factory

Scottish Courage has a lot of bottle, after investing £24 million to develop Europe's most modern bottling facility at its Tadcaster brewery.

 

In an area bigger than two football pitches, two state-of-the-art production lines can fill 50,000 bottles per hour, ensuring supplies of brands such as Foster's, Kronenbourg, Miller Genuine Draft and Newcastle Brown.

 

The brewing giant has created 42 new jobs have been created at the plant, which can fill bottle sizes ranging from 200ml to 1litre bottles. Bottled beer now accounts for 12 per cent of all beer sales in the UK.

 

Gary Woodburn, head of manufacturing at John Smith's Tadcaster Brewery said: "This investment will make our Tadcaster operation the UK's undisputed leader in alcoholic drinks bottling.

 

"The powerful combination of cutting edge technology and a highly-trained and motivated workforce will provide Scottish Courage with unprecedented bottling capability and flexibility."
