Alford Arms in Hertfordshire is The Times' top gastropub

The Salisbury Pubs’ site was chosen following a reader poll in association with Harden’s with top comments including ‘beautiful’ and ‘tucked away’. The average price per head comes in at £48 with a scotch egg served with crispy pancetta and smoked tomato ketchup; steak and local ale pie; and pan-roast hake fillet with crab brandade, chargrilled fennel and Bloody Mary dressing among options on the menu.

The Anchor & Hope in Southwark, London came second and also ranked seventh in the Publican’s Morning Advertiser’s Top 50 Gastropub Awards 2013, with the Angel in Hetton, North Yorkshire placing third with The Times​ and 23rd in the PMA awards.
