There’s a huge night of boxing in store on April 9 as Anthony Joshua faces Charles Martin at The O2 in London, with pubs and bars set to benefit as support for Joshua continues to rise amidst a renaissance for British boxing.

Adam Smith, Executive Producer and Host for Sky Boxing, is looking forward to an exciting and unpredictable night.

“Charles Martin is 6’5”, very confident, very ambitious and very dangerous, and he can really punch. He’s got 21 knockouts in his 23 wins and I think he could pose all sorts of problems for any one of the current heavyweights.

“He comes with some pedigree, an unbeaten record and a lot of power. He has a bit of mystique, but he could certainly be very good on the night and he comes with plenty to think about.”

The bout is predicted to be Anthony Joshua’s sternest test to date, making the move from British level to fighting for a world championship in only fight number 16, and while he still has a lot to prove, not least to himself, Adam Smith believes all the signs are positive for Joshua.

Confidence

“AJ reminds me of a young Lennox Lewis; very confident in his own ability, but quietly confident, and he works very hard. I think everyone’s expecting so much of him. He’s such a charismatic individual, he’s very good for the sport, and everyone’s really excited about the journey they’re going on with him. He’s turned The O2 into his home, his fortress.

As well as the main event, there’s plenty of top boxing action from 6pm on Sky Sports Box Office, including two world title fights plus plenty more, including George Groves in action, plus Conor Benn – Nigel Benn’s son – is making his professional debut.

Big night

Adam Smith added that it is set to be enjoyable night for fans in pubs on April 9: “All eyes are on AJ and whether he can become a world heavyweight champion.

"What we’re trying to do at Sky Sports is bring the really big boxing nights back to Britain, making sure the atmospheres are fantastic and the card is laced with great action. We want people to have a fun time at the event and for that to come across on-screen in the pubs and bars up and down the country.”

Anthony Joshua v Charles Martin is live from 6pm on April 9, exclusively via Sky Sports Box Office.
