News Article Comments : UKIP warning on smoke ban extension
The UK Independence Party (UKIP) has called for "civil disobedience" over what it says are plans to ban smoking from all public places, including beer gardens.
UKIP points to Europe's recommendation that suggests a new definition of an enclosed or indoor areas where smoking should be banned.
These would "include any space covered by a roof or enclosed by one or more walls or sides, regardless of the type of material used for the roof, wall or sides, and regardless of whether the structure is permanent or temporary”.
This goes further than the rule of smoking shelters in this country, where 50% must be open to the elements, and could threaten some smoking shelters.
UKIP MEP Godfrey Bloom said: “Enough is enough. Today six pubs will close in the UK. Part of our culture is under threat and today is the time to say enough is enough. These jumped up puritanical dictators must be told where to get off.

UKIP warning on smoke ban extension I have to agree with the last post, the way to defeat Government is by doing exactly what they do... form a Coalition. Over the years they have quietly formed and funded Coalitions to push they agendas without being seen to be directly involved.
Government take the view of divide and conquor but if all parties got round the table with the common objective to take on Government whether by political or legal means then you stand a real chance of success. Alcohol and food will be next on their agenda, it is now make up your mind time.. sink or swim. RE: UKIP warning on smoke ban extension It just occurred to me that although it may be a little bit dated, my "Day Of Defiance!" booklet from two years ago might be helpful here. Wasn't there a VERY similar comment made about four years ago by a notable MP claiming that "there are no plans to extend the smoking ban to all pubs in the UK" ?
