Fuller's buys rebel Greene King pub

Fuller's has acquired rebel Greene King pub the Lewes Arms in Lewes, East Sussex.

Lewes Arms: Boycott last year

The Lewes Arms hit the headlines last year after Greene King removed local brew Harvey's Best Bitter from sale.

Lewes residents had led a high profile four-month campaign to boycott the pub until Harveys was reinstated in April.

Fuller's has promised to facilitate a continued supply of Harveys to the Lewes Arms alongside its own range of beers.

“We have been looking for a site in Lewes for some time and we are thrilled to acquire such a prestigious pub," said Fuller’s Inns managing director Simon Emeny.

"Our pubs in Brighton are performing well and a move into nearby Lewes was the logical next step.

“Fuller’s always looks to offer the best pub in any area and we are looking forward to working with the local community to ensure the Lewes Arms is a pub they can all be proud of."

The pub will run by Peter Dowd who also runs the highly successful Basketmaker's Arms in Brighton.
