Village Green Inns carries out £1m refurb

Shropshire family-owned pubco Village Green Inns is carrying out a £1m redevelopment on the Horseshoes Inn at Dorrington.

The company's Boot Inn at Orleton

It is the firm’s second pub — it already operates the Boot Inn at Orleton — and it has already had an offer accepted on its third site.

Managing director Freddie Collier, who runs the business along with his two brothers, said the plan is to build a chain of 15-18 freehold pubs over the next few years.

They bought the Horseshoes last August, but closed the 300-year-old building at the end of October to carry out a “radical refurbishment”. The pub, which is scheduled to reopen by Easter, will employ up to 30 people.

Collier said the plan is to combine “traditional and contemporary architecture”. Details will include a conservatory-style entrance, and a glass floor that allows a view down on the wine cellar beneath.

There will be a large contemporary dining area focusing on high-quality service, local produce and a “convivial atmosphere”.

Customers can expect to pay up to £15 for a main course and £7 for a starter.

The company also wants to maintain the pub at the centre of the community — it will stock cask ales and have a games area. The site has a post office, which has already reopened, and five letting bedrooms are being added in the refurbishment.
