'Recession hits pubco shares'

The Bank of England's warning that Britain is on the verge of a recession has hit pub and leisure shares. Enterprise Inns tumbled 43¼ to 342¾p. Shares at Whitbread, JD Wetherspoon, Punch Taverns, Greene King and Mitchells & Butlers have all fallen - The Telegraph​

Iranian property tycoon, Robert Tchenguiz has bought back the leases on about 80 of the former Laurel pubs and bars he controversially put into administration in March. He placed Laurel and its 383 pubs and restaurants in administration earlier this year but immediately used a move known as a "pre-pack" to buy back 292 sites through new ventures Town & City Pub Company and Bay Restaurant Group - The Telegraph​

Locals at a village pub in Norfolk are beating the credit crunch - by bartering home-grown produce for pints. The Pigs in Edgefield, near Holt, encourages drinkers to contribute to its traditional food menu in return for free alcohol. A sign placed inside the pub reads: "If you grow, breed, shoot or steal anything that may look at home on our menu, bring it in and let's do a deal." - BBC​
