Why am I being asked to register?

As you may be aware, we are asking frequent visitors to The Morning Advertiser to register their email address with us and provide some industry-specific details in order to continue reading all this lovely stuff we’re offering you.

Please note that a website account is separate to signing up for our newsletters, current newsletter subscribers will still need to create a website account in order to read content.

Once an account has been created, users are free to enjoy unlimited access to all our content and will no longer see any registration messaging whilst logged in to their account – wouldn’t that be lovely!

All content on The Morning Advertiser continues to be available for free to all readers, this is not a paywall. It’s important to us that we keep our independent journalism as free and as open as possible while we can, and being able to tailor our content to you, our audience, will help us to maintain that.

So why are we asking you to register? That’s a fair question, and one that we will answer transparently.

Registering is a free and simple way to help us sustain our independent journalism. When users sign in, we are able to build deeper relationships that helps our strategy in a number of ways: it can help us provide a better reader experience, deepen engagement with our journalism and strengthen our advertising proposition with a more targeted approach – so less spam for you!

We understand that every single one of our readers is unique, a CEO of a 3,000-strong pub estate has very different content requirements to a chef patron of a gastropub. We want everyone's experience on The Morning Advertiser to be as informative as possible; by gaining a deeper understanding of the content our readers are engaging with, it allows us to provide a content experience that is better suited to their needs going forward.

As we still rely on advertising to fund our publication, one of the ways in which we safeguard the future of our journalism is by using data. When you sign in, we are able to collect and store your data to better inform the marketing and advertising that we tailor to you. We believe that advertising shouldn’t be a hinderance but can help you if it is relevant and appropriate. You will always be able to control your own privacy. We think carefully about our use of your data and we have a privacy notice and a cookie statement which explains how we collect, use, share and transfer your personal data, as well as a team who are dedicated to keeping any data we collect safe and secure.

So what are you waiting for? Register now and help us to help your business!
